چکیده

Rate monotonic traffic scheduling algorithm had been shown [1] to be the optimal static priority assignment scheme. The system model studied in [1] can be considered (although not realistic) as a preemptive multiplexer which accepts constant bit rate connections that generate packets periodically. The multiplexer adopts a service discipline such that a lower priority packet can be preempted at any stage by a higher priority one without any loss. The constraint is that every packet has to complete its service before the arrival of its succeeding packet generated by the same connection. In this paper, we study the schedulability problem of rate monotonic schedulers for a fixedlength packet switched network such as the ATM network. A necessary and sufficient condition for a set of m constant bit rate connections to be rate monotonic schedulable is first derived and then utilized to design fast admission control algorithms. One of our algorithms computes in advance the minimum period of a connection which can be accepted given a set of existing connections. key words: real-time applications, delay jitter, scheduling, ad-

An Omniscient Scheduling Oracle for Systems with Harmonic Periods

Most real-time scheduling problems are known to be NP-complete. To enable accurate comparison between the schedules of heuristic algorithms and the optimal schedule, we introduce an omniscient oracle. This oracle provides schedules for periodic task sets with harmonic periods and variable resource requirements. Three di erent job value functions are described and implemented. Each corresponds t...

An Efficient RMS Admission Control and its Application to Multiprocessor Scheduling - Parallel Processing Symposium, 1998, and Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing 1998. 19

A real-time system must execute functionally correct computations in a timely mannel: In order to guarantee that all tasks accepted in the system will meet their timing requirements, an admission control algorithm must be used to only accept tasks whose requirements can be satisfied. Rate-monotonic scheduling (RMS) is arguably the best known scheduling policy for periodic real-time tasks on uni...

Optimal Control for Real-Time Feedback Rate-Monotonic Schedulers

This paper presents an optimal control scheme for a realtime feedback control rate-monotonic scheduling (FC-RMS) system. We consider two-version tasks composed of a mandatory and an optional part to be scheduled according to the FC-RMS. In FC-RMS, the controller provides a feedback strategy for deciding about the execution or rejection of the optional sub-tasks. By modeling the task execution t...

Comparison of global and partitioning schemes for scheduling rate monotonic tasks on a multiprocessor

In this paper we study GRMS, a global scheduling scheme for rate monotonic tasks on a multiprocessor. Several admission control algorithms for GRMS are presented, both for hard and soft real-time tasks. The average performance of these admission control algorithms is compared with the performance of known partitioning schemes. The result of these comparisons outlines some situations where one s...
